New Delhi, January 10 (IANS). Today, in the race to move ahead in career and come out ahead in competition, the basic needs of life are being left behind. Food is being ignored and health has been marginalized. To maintain physical fitness, people sweat for a few hours every day in the gym, but often forget to pay attention to mental health.
The disturbance that persists in the mind and brain gradually takes the form of stress, insomnia and restlessness. Its effect falls on the entire body and the person becomes vulnerable to mental as well as physical diseases. But do you know that meditation can be a lifesaver for the mind and brain, helping to bring back inner peace and balance in life?
Meditation is not just sitting with your eyes closed, but it is the science of connecting with the infinite energy within you. Meditation of 20 minutes a day gives immense peace along with giving energy to the mind, brain and entire body. In Ayurveda, meditation has been linked to the health of body and mind, which tries to keep both body and mind happy by calming them. In science, meditation is called the restart button of the brain, which emits ‘Alpha’ and ‘Theta’ waves in the brain and tries to prevent ‘overclocking’, i.e. over thinking.
Meditation is important for both mind and body in many ways. Meditating for 20 minutes daily reduces stress and produces less cortisol (stress hormone) in the body. Meditation increases happy hormones in the body and focuses on good thoughts and being happy. Second, strength of memory. Nowadays, the problem of forgetting things from a young age is being seen in children as well as adults.
The problem of forgetfulness is seen more in women during pregnancy and even after pregnancy and this happens due to hormonal imbalance. In such a situation, meditation helps in enhancing memory and also increases the ability to learn. You will be surprised to know that meditation is also helpful in increasing the immunity of the body. Daily meditation also reduces the risk of getting sick and also promotes mental health.
The third is deep and good sleep. Sleep is most affected due to the habits of working on the system all day and using the phone. Meditation helps in the production of ‘melatonin’, the sleep hormone, which helps in getting good and deep sleep. Additionally, regular meditation delays aging and keeps cells repairing properly.
