Amazing Amaltas: Helpful in strengthening the digestive system, also a panacea for skin diseases.

New Delhi, December 8 (IANS). There are many trees and plants in nature which not only enhance beauty but are also a boon for health. One such tree is Amaltas, which is called Golden Shower Tree in English.

As much as Amaltas is beautiful to look at, it also has many medicinal properties.

The scientific name of Amaltas is Cassia Fistula. Its bright yellow flowers attract the mind from a distance. The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India gives detailed information about its medicinal properties. This yellow flower is helpful in removing many physical problems and has an important status in Ayurveda.

Amaltas has been used in Ayurveda for centuries. Elements like kaempferol, rhein and phytol are found in Amaltas flowers, which benefit the body in many ways. Along with flowers, its bark, leaves and pods are used as medicine. The digestive system gets the biggest benefit from this. In case of chronic constipation, soaking Amaltas pulp in water at night and taking it in the morning on an empty stomach helps in cleaning the stomach and strengthening the intestines.

Amaltas is no less than a panacea for skin diseases. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties present in its flowers provide relief from problems like itching, ringworm, scabies and eczema. Taking paste or decoction of flowers restores the glow of the skin and reduces infection. Apart from this, Amaltas also helps in reducing fever, relieving joint pain and detoxifying the body.

Its flowers are used naturally to bring back the lost glow of the skin and reduce inflammation. However, experts say that Amaltas should be consumed in limited quantity and only on the advice of an Ayurvedacharya, because consuming it in excess quantity can cause diarrhoea.
