What effect will this order have on patients?
Patients cannot be charged more than ₹119.48 per ml (plus GST, if applicable) for this medicine.
If a company is already selling a medicine at a lower price, it can continue to do so.
Companies that are currently selling at higher prices will have to lower their prices to new ceilings.
NPPA instructions
NPPA has directed pharmaceutical companies to fix MRP as per the new maximum price.
The new price list will have to be submitted to NPPA and made available to the state drug controllers and dealers.
Retailers will have to display this price list at their shops.
Companies will have to provide quarterly information about production, imports and sales to NPPA.
If any company wants to stop the production of this medicine, it will have to inform NPPA at least six months in advance.
If overcharging is done, the company may be charged the excess amount along with interest.
Why was this order issued?
NPPA has made this change on the basis of ‘National List of Essential Medicines’ (NLEM 2022), ‘Drugs (Price Control) Order’ (DPCO) 2013 and WPI of 0.64956% for the year 2026.
This keeps the prices of essential medicines under control and ensures that they are available to patients at affordable prices.
