Are you troubled by cold and cough during the festive season? You will get relief from these home remedies

New Delhi, February 28 (IANS). The festive season is going on. On one hand there is excitement and sweets and on the other hand due to sudden change in weather, problems like cold and cough are also increasing. These problems, combined with cold winds, dust and pollution, cause irritation in the throat and chest, and a dry or mucus-filled cough. However, the solution to these problems lies in home remedies.

The National Health Mission has warned people to never ignore the initial symptoms of cold and cough. With timely care, one can protect oneself and prevent the disease from progressing.

In such a situation, consuming things easily available at home does not cause any side effects and also provides relief. It is important to take care of health while celebrating festivals.

The main symptoms of whooping cough include dry cough, cough with mucus, sore or burning throat, and heaviness or burning sensation in the chest. These symptoms seem mild in the beginning, but if they are not treated, the cough can become prolonged and cause difficulty in breathing. In the rush of festivals, people often ignore these symptoms, which later becomes a big problem.

According to the National Health Mission, household and easily available things can provide great relief from these symptoms. In case of dry cough, chewing liquorice or cloves in the mouth is very beneficial. Liquorice softens the throat and soothes cough, while the oil present in cloves helps fight bacteria. Gargling with lukewarm water mixed with salt provides instant relief from sore throat and burning sensation. This is the oldest and effective home remedy.

Drinking half a teaspoon of turmeric mixed in a glass of warm milk before sleeping is also very beneficial. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which increase immunity and provide comfortable sleep at night. Making a decoction of ginger and basil and drinking it mixed with honey is also very effective. Ginger has a warming effect, which relieves cough and loosens phlegm, while basil keeps the respiratory tract clear. Honey soothes the throat and helps suppress cough.
