New Delhi, June 18 (IANS). Uttanapadasana is considered to be a very simple but effective asana of yoga, which can be easily done at home. In today’s busy life, when people sit for long hours, suffer from wrong eating habits and stress, then this asana proves to be very beneficial for both body and mind. The special thing is that no special equipment or space is required to do this, just a clean and flat place is enough.
The Ministry of AYUSH posted on its official social media account that Uttanapadasana helps in strengthening the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. When we do this asana, there is slight pressure on the lower part of the stomach, which improves blood circulation there. It has a direct effect on the digestive system and provides relief from problems like gas, constipation, indigestion and stomach ache. This asana is considered very useful for those people who often feel heaviness after eating or their stomach does not remain clean.
Another big advantage of this asana is that it also has a positive effect on mental health. When we breathe slowly and deeply while doing this, the mind gets peace and stress is reduced. It helps in relaxing the nervous system, which provides relief from problems like anxiety and restlessness. For people who are under pressure from studies or office, this asana can be helpful in maintaining mental balance.
The method of doing Uttanapadasana is also very easy. First of all, lie down on your back on the ground and keep both hands near the body. The palms should be facing downwards. Now while breathing slowly, raise both the legs together by about 30 to 45 degrees. Stay in this position for a few seconds and then slowly exhale and bring the feet back to the ground. This can be repeated a few times as per your capacity.
However, people who have high blood pressure, back pain or any serious spine problem should do this asana with caution. Pregnant women and people who have recently undergone abdominal surgery should consult a doctor before doing this asana.
