New Delhi, January 27 (IANS). In today’s era, mobile, laptop and TV have become a part of our life. Eye irritation, heaviness, blurred vision and gradual weakening of vision have become common problems due to watching screens for hours. Many people are becoming dependent on glasses at an early age.
Ayurveda believes that just as other parts of the body need exercise, eyes can also be kept healthy with regular exercise. Correct eye exercises strengthen the eye muscles and help reduce fatigue.
According to Ayurveda, eyes are associated with Tejas element. Wrong daily routine, staying awake till late night, excessive screen time and stress worsens Pitta Dosha, which directly affects the eyes. Eye exercises improve blood circulation, due to which oxygen and nutrition reach the eyes properly. This is why regular practice can maintain eye function for a long time.
The easiest and most effective exercise is blinking. Sit straight and blink rapidly 20 times, then close your eyes and rest for 10 seconds. This exercise reduces dryness and fatigue of the eyes. The second exercise is to look up and down. Without moving your head, slowly look up and then look down. Do this 10 to 15 times. This strengthens the eye muscles.
The third exercise is to look left and right. Keep the head still and look only with the eyes to the right, then to the left. It helps in increasing focus power. After this, practice rotating the eyes in a circular motion. Make 5-5 rounds first in the clockwise direction and then in the anti-clockwise direction. It reduces eye strain.
Tratak Kriya is also considered very important in Ayurveda. Stare at the flame of a lamp or candle for 30 to 60 seconds without blinking. This increases concentration and supports eyesight. Along with this, washing eyes with cold water in the morning, cleaning with rose water and washing eyes with Triphala water twice a week is also considered beneficial.
Small changes in lifestyle are also necessary. Take a break from the screen every 20 minutes, get enough sleep, eat green vegetables and fruits, and spend some time looking at the sky every day.
