Prayagraj, June 19 (IANS). As a preparation for International Yoga Day, ‘Water Yoga’ was organized at Banyan Ghat of Yamuna River in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. On Friday, swimmers were seen holding posters of Yogasana in their hands making people aware about Yoga.
From children, women to youth and elderly people who came to learn swimming, a lot of enthusiasm was seen regarding Yoga Day. The swimming instructor made people do water yoga in various yoga postures. In this, along with Surya Namaskar, Shavasana, Vajrasana, Matsyasana and Anulom-Vilom, ‘Om’ was chanted.
Speaking to IANS, swimming coach Tribhuvan Nishad said, “Swimming has been taught at Navjeevan Swimming Academy for 40 years. After the Prime Minister’s call for Yoga Day, we thought why not teach yoga to children too, so that they can benefit from it. Since then, we have been conducting ‘Water Yoga’ every year. It increases immunity, improves stamina and helps in reducing diseases like cervical.”
Talking about different yoga asanas, coach Tribhuvan said, “All the children who come here, we teach them yoga along with swimming. From small to old, everyone does yoga. From a 3-year-old child to an 80-year-old man, we can see here.”
Regarding International Yoga Day, he said, “More than 150 countries celebrate Yoga Day. That’s why we also do yoga in the Yamuna river, so that we remain healthy and happy.”
The swimmers who came for the same training say that water yoga has double benefits. He said that along with increasing the immunity power, taro makes one feel fresh throughout the day.
The woman who participated in water yoga said, “We did water yoga along with swimming on Friday. It has many benefits.” Another woman said, “June 21 is International Yoga Day. On this occasion, we do ‘water yoga’. It is also Prime Minister Modi’s call that everyone should do yoga.”
An elderly woman expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister and wished him good health. He said, “Children here do yoga for months. It has many benefits. It also provides relief from respiratory diseases.”
