New Delhi, May 14 (IANS). Camphor is a very fragrant and white colored crystal like substance, whose strong fragrance attracts everyone’s attention. It is mainly obtained from the camphor tree. Camphor has been used in India since ancient times. It is used in everything from worship to home remedies.
Camphor has a strong and clean fragrance. This is why the use of camphor is very common in Indian homes and religious places. It is burnt during aarti and puja in temples. It is believed that burning camphor purifies the environment and reduces the negative energy around.
Camphor is also considered very useful medicinally. It has natural antiseptic properties, which help in protecting the body from infection. It is also used in cold and respiratory problems. Often people mix camphor in oil and massage it on the chest, which provides relief from blocked nose and cold. Its strong smell helps in clearing the respiratory tract.
Camphor is also used in skin related problems. Oil or ointment containing camphor provides relief in mild itching, fungal infection or skin irritation. However, it should be used with caution as it is a very strong substance and applying it directly on the skin in large quantities can cause irritation.
Another important use of camphor is as a natural insecticide. In ancient times, people used to keep it to protect clothes and grains from insects. Its smell keeps insects away, hence it is still used in home remedies even today.
Apart from this, camphor is also used in aromatherapy. Its fragrance helps in reducing mental stress and calming the mind. Many people also use it during meditation and yoga so that the environment remains calm and positive.
