New Delhi, April 8 (IANS). On the occasion of World Health Day, a special initiative regarding health awareness was seen in the national capital Delhi on Tuesday. Dr. Akanksha of Delhi State Cancer Hospital said that testing is a very important way to prevent the disease.
He told IANS that screening is for people who appear completely healthy and do not have any symptoms of any disease. But many times the disease is developing inside the body and the person is not aware of it. Especially in cases like breast cancer, no symptoms are seen in the initial stage.
Meanwhile, hospital HOD Pragya Shukla said that this year the theme of World Health Day emphasizes on evidence-based medicine and scientific treatment. Under this, a health camp was organized at Delhi Police Headquarters, where cervical cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer and oral cancer are being screened.
Dr. Priyanka Sharma also stressed the importance of screening and said that the sooner the screening is done, the sooner cancer can be detected. He said that with early detection, treatment starts quickly, which significantly increases the chances of the patient’s recovery. Also, with timely treatment, the risk of cancer recurring also reduces.
The World Health Organization was established on 7 April 1948 and in memory of this day, World Health Day is celebrated every year since 1950. On this occasion, free health camps, webinars, blood donation camps and fitness related programs are organized all over the world, so that people can become aware of their health.
On World Health Day, the message was given to the people that it is very important to get tested from time to time and take care of one’s health, so that serious diseases can be avoided.
