New Delhi, March 26 (IANS). A new ‘trend’ is rapidly making its special and firm place in the fitness world. A trend that has the power to clean not only the body but also the cities. “Plogging”—picking up trash while running—is becoming popular today with people from New York to Delhi. This idea, which started in Sweden, has now taken the form of a global movement, where run clubs not only burn calories but also take up the responsibility of cleaning the roads.
The special thing is that it turns fitness into a social experience. People run together, talk, make new friends, and sometimes even romantic connections begin here. But plogging takes it a step further—where every step adds up to a contribution to the environment.
A glimpse of this thinking can be seen in India also. Fitness icons like Milind Soman have often inspired people through beach clean-ups and running. Akshay Kumar has also been associated with cleanliness and social responsibility campaigns. The influence of these celebrities shows that fitness can no longer just be an individual goal, but a collective responsibility.
Efforts have been made in this direction at the political level also. Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been a major initiative to make cleanliness a mass movement in the country.
A big reason for the popularity of plogging is its simplicity. It doesn’t require any expensive equipment or complicated systems—just the habit of picking up trash while running makes it special. This is the reason why this trend is spreading rapidly among the youth, especially in urban areas where both fitness and environment are matters of great concern.
Plogging is not a fitness activity, but a mindset—a mindset that teaches that even small steps can lead to big changes.
