Chandigarh, June 16 (IANS). Amid preparations for International Yoga Day 2026, a special yoga event was organized in Haryana Assembly. During this, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini practiced yoga in the assembly premises on Tuesday and spoke on the importance of yoga. During the program, he said that today it is a matter of pride for the entire country that India’s ancient yoga tradition has been adopted by the entire world.
CM Nayab Singh Saini said that in the year 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had proposed International Yoga Day in the United Nations (UNO) to give global recognition to Yoga. Countries around the world welcomed this proposal of the Prime Minister with open hearts. He said that when this proposal was placed in UNO, 170 countries supported it for the first time, which was a historic achievement in itself.
CM Saini said that this time we all are celebrating the 12th International Yoga Day and it is a matter of pride that the whole world has joined Yoga. He said it was not just a proposal, but a global recognition of India’s cultural power and its ancient heritage.
Describing Yoga as an integral part of India’s eternal tradition, he said that it is also mentioned in Srimad Bhagavad Gita. Principles like Karmayoga, Bhaktiyoga and Gyanyoga given by Lord Shri Krishna are still working to give right direction to human life. Yoga is not just a physical exercise but a complete method to make life balanced and healthy.
The Chief Minister said that through International Yoga Day, the world has honored the invaluable knowledge and heritage given by the sages of India. Today almost all the countries of the world are celebrating Yoga Day, which is a symbol of global acceptance of India’s spiritual and cultural tradition.
International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June. On 11 December 2014, a proposal to celebrate ‘International Yoga Day’ on 21 June was approved by 177 members of the United Nations.
