Thiruvananthapuram, June 7 (IANS). Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan expressed concern over the financial crisis and uncertain future of Indian-origin paramedical staff working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Satheesan has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate help and intervention to resolve the problems of these paramedics.

CM VD Satheesan said in a letter to the Prime Minister that Indian healthcare professionals, including nurses, are facing many visa-related problems in the Gulf country because of the long-running conflict between the US and Iran in the region and this is making it difficult for them to get jobs, visit and dependent visas.

Referring to an Iranian hospital in Dubai, he said that the healthcare workers of the state are facing a very troubling situation.

Expressing concern over the threat to their jobs and livelihood due to some restrictions in the conflict zone, the Kerala CM said that the grace period of many of them is about to end and that they may have to face ‘forced deportation’ once their stay in UAE expires.

He wrote in the letter that many of the affected people are nearing the end of their grace period and fear that they may be forced to leave the UAE, putting their future job opportunities and professional licensing at risk.

He pointed out the threat to the livelihood of many doctors.

He said this situation has created concern among many Malayali families, whose lives and children’s education are linked to the UAE.

Chief Minister Satheesan demanded that the Ministry of External Affairs work with the Indian Embassy in the UAE and relevant UAE authorities to find a fair and compassionate solution on humanitarian grounds.

The Kerala CM also emphasized the contribution of Indian healthcare workers across the Gulf countries including UAE who are helping in ensuring uninterrupted healthcare and fighting emergency situations.

He said that these professionals worked with dedication and excellence, including during the COVID-19 pandemic when they were at the forefront of healthcare delivery.
