Coconut: A treasure trove of health and beauty in everything from water to oil

New Delhi, January 27 (IANS). Coconut (Shriphal) is not just an ordinary fruit but a wonderful source of health, beauty and mental peace. Special properties are hidden in every part of its tree, leaves, water and oil.

First of all let’s talk about coconut water. It has been called life chemical in Ayurveda. Coconut water is very beneficial in summers, from cooling the body to restoring energy after fever or vomiting and diarrhoea. It contains natural electrolytes, which maintain the balance of water and minerals in the body.

Now let’s talk about coconut oil. It is not just for cooking, but is a natural shield for skin and hair. Massaging with coconut oil reduces hair fall, removes dandruff and strengthens the roots. When applied on the skin, it reduces dryness, cracked lips and infections. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties present in it give glow and protection to the skin. In Ayurvedic texts it has been called an oil that calms the heat of the skin.

The white pulp of coconut is also no less beneficial. It is rich in fiber and nutritious fats, improves digestion and gives instant energy to the body. Constipation is cured by eating one piece in the morning. It is also a natural tonic that removes weakness. Coconut milk is also very beneficial. It acts as a moisturizer for the skin, reduces dryness of hair and nourishes the muscles of the body.

According to Ayurveda, coconut pacifies Vata and Pitta dosha, cools the body and brings mental peace. Pitta peace drink can be made by mixing basil juice in coconut water. Oil pulling with coconut oil for 5 minutes every morning is also very beneficial for teeth and gums.

Not only this, coconut is the only fruit which comes in all three categories of fruit, seeds and nuts. Its tree can live for 100 years and gives about 75 fruits.
