New Delhi, April 30 (IANS). It is advisable to reduce the consumption of hot food items in summer because the external environment is already hot and bile starts increasing inside the body as well.
In such a situation, the body is affected by external and internal heat. This is the reason why the demand for things with cold effect increases in summer and things with hot effect are kept aside, but along with this, a big question is whether consuming honey in summer can be harmful.
In Ayurveda, the city is considered nectar, but its nature is hot and humid. There is already heat and moisture in the atmosphere in summer. In such a situation, will it be right to consume honey in summer? Ayurveda believes that even though the nature of honey is hot, it has also been called a ‘Yogavahi’ substance i.e. whatever thing honey is mixed with, it absorbs the same properties.
If honey is consumed directly, it can cause heat and burning sensation by increasing bile in the body, but if it is taken with the same method and food items, then its effect changes. For example, in summer, you can consume honey by mixing it with water from an earthen pitcher in the morning. Mix lemon in it and take it in the morning on an empty stomach. This will help in keeping the body cool and also keep the weight under control.
Sattu is consumed in every house in summer. Some people like to take sweet Sattu and use sugar in it, but instead of sugar, honey can be used in Sattu. It will provide both coolness and energy to the body. This mixture will not only keep the body hydrated, but will also remove muscle fatigue in a jiffy.
Honey can also be taken with curd in the afternoon. A mixture of honey and curd is an excellent probiotic food item, which strengthens the digestive system and also helps in protecting from heat stroke. Along with this, one thing to keep in mind is that never take honey with ghee. This comes under the category of anti-diet. Consuming both together causes excess heat in the body and also leads to imbalance of Vata and Pitta.
