New Delhi, January 16 (IANS). Group 3 has been implemented after the continuous deterioration of air quality in Delhi.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 354 on Friday, after which it was decided to implement stringent restrictions with immediate effect under Phase-3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

According to officials, this decision is in addition to the already implemented GRAP Phase-1 and Phase-2 actions to prevent further deterioration of air quality.

According to CAQM, the sub-committee constituted on GRAP has directed all concerned agencies in Delhi-NCR to strictly implement all the actions prescribed under Phase-3 of GRAP.

The panel has further tightened certain provisions of the Phase-3 response by mandating that the Government of Delhi (GNCTD) not allow BS-IV diesel powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) registered outside Delhi to enter the capital, except those vehicles supplying essential goods or providing essential services.

It is noteworthy that the ‘severe level’ of air quality is considered to be between 401 to 450.

The GRAP sub-committee reviewed the current situation of air quality as well as the forecasts of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).

The review found that due to adverse weather conditions and slow wind speed, the AQI is likely to deteriorate further in the coming days and may reach the ‘severe’ category.

Sub-committee members coordinator and technical director R.K. The circular issued by Aggarwal said that all the actions taken under Phase-1, 2 and 3 of the revised GRAP will be implemented in the entire NCR and will be continuously monitored and reviewed, so that the AQI level does not go down further.
