New Delhi, May 10 (IANS). In today’s busy life, women often compromise on their health between the responsibilities of home, job and family, due to which many health problems gradually start affecting the body. One such serious problem is anemia.
Many women ignore problems like constant fatigue, weakness, dizziness or shortness of breath, considering them as normal, but this can be a sign of lack of blood in the body.
Anemia is a condition in which sufficient oxygen does not reach the body parts. If it is not treated for a long time, it can have adverse effects on the heart, brain and entire body.
According to medical science, anemia occurs when the red blood cells in the body decrease or the hemoglobin level decreases. Hemoglobin is a special type of protein, which works to carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. When there is iron deficiency in the body, sufficient hemoglobin is not produced. Due to this, the body does not get full energy and the person starts feeling tired all the time.
According to a research, this problem is seen more in women than in men.
Menstruation is considered to be the biggest reason behind increasing anemia in women. Due to bleeding every month, the amount of iron in the body keeps decreasing. In women who have heavy bleeding, this deficiency may increase more rapidly. If the body does not get enough iron through food, weakness gradually increases.
Apart from this, during pregnancy also the body needs more nutrition than normal days. Blood has to be made for both the mother and the baby in the womb. In such a situation, due to deficiency of iron and folic acid, the risk of anemia increases significantly.
Many women reduce their food intake to lose weight quickly or adopt a diet which does not contain adequate amounts of nutrients. Doing this for a long time can weaken the body.
The biggest problem of anemia is that its initial symptoms appear slowly. Initially people consider it as normal fatigue, but when the blood loss in the body increases, then many signs become clearly visible. Feeling constant weakness, getting tired after doing little work, dizziness, feeling heavy in the head and shortness of breath while climbing stairs are considered its common symptoms.
In some women, the skin starts turning yellow and the lips or the inside of the eyes start appearing white. Iron deficiency also affects hair and nails. Hair starts falling rapidly and nails become weak and break. Sometimes the shape of nails also changes.
Anemia can be accurately diagnosed through a blood test, so if you feel weakness or fatigue for a long time, you should definitely get tested.
