Cancer experts have warned men not to ignore even small changes in their body, as these can sometimes be a sign of the beginning of a serious disease. British radiation oncologist Dr. Jiri Kubs said that men often take the symptoms lightly, due to which diseases like cancer are detected late.
Body aches or fatigue are often considered normal as we age, but some symptoms require immediate attention. Dr. Kubes said that even seemingly minor symptoms like back pain, persistent fatigue, weight loss and sore throat can be early symptoms of cancer. Back pain is often associated with age or muscle weakness, but if the pain persists or seems severe, it can be a symptom of cancer. This is especially true if the pain is unrelated to activity, worsens at night or in the morning, or does not go away even after treatment.
Fatigue or weakness can also be a serious symptom. According to Dr. Kubes, persistent fatigue even after adequate sleep and rest may be the result of the activity of cancer cells in the body. Cancer cells use the body’s energy and nutrients to replicate. If this fatigue persists for a long time and is accompanied by symptoms like weight loss, fever or pain, you should immediately consult a doctor. This is often an early sign of internal cancer.
Unintentional weight loss is also a warning sign. If weight loss occurs without diet or exercise, it may be associated with cancer of the pancreas, lung, stomach or esophagus. However, other reasons like stress or hormonal changes can also be the reason for weight loss. If the sore throat persists for more than three weeks, do not ignore it as a common cold or cough. According to Dr. Kubes, if the pain is accompanied by a hoarse voice, difficulty in swallowing, or pain in the ears, it could be a sign of throat cancer.
Experts say that the body is always giving signals. The only difference is how quickly we recognize them. If any abnormal symptoms persist for a long time, it is important to consult a doctor, as timely diagnosis and treatment can save life.
