New Delhi, April 6 (IANS). In today’s era, we all are living in a world where there is no dearth of information. As soon as we open the mobile, thousands of health related advice are in front of us. Sometimes a home remedy goes viral, and sometimes a new medicine or diet becomes a trend. But the question is whether all this information is correct? Is what we believe really beneficial for our health? In such a situation, evidence based health information is necessary.
Evidence-based health means health knowledge and treatment that is based on scientific research, evidence and solid facts. That is, those things which doctors, scientists and researchers prove by studying for a long time are the most reliable for our health. Therefore, the theme of World Health Day 2026 has also been kept similar this time.
World Health Day is celebrated every year on 7 April to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO). A theme is selected to highlight a priority area of public health. ‘United for Health’ for the year 2026. The theme has been ‘Stand with Science’. It emphasizes converting scientific achievements and evidence into action.
Many times people immediately adopt the advice they see on social media, without knowing whether it is right for their body or not. This may sometimes result in the opposite direction. On the other hand, when we rely on evidence-based information, we not only choose the right treatment, but also protect our body from unnecessary risks.
The biggest need today is that we move beyond hearsay and trust facts. Take vaccination, for example. Many times misconceptions are spread about it, but scientific research clearly shows that vaccines save millions of lives.
Evidence-based thinking is important not only in treatment, but also in our everyday habits. Eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, all these things are scientifically proven to keep us healthy. But still many times we look for shortcuts, quick weight loss medicines, supplements or fad diets without doctor’s advice. All these things may seem attractive, but they are not always safe.
Besides, every person is different. What is beneficial for one person is not necessarily good for another. Therefore, it is very important to take doctor’s advice and take decisions according to your needs. Information can be obtained from the internet, but only an expert can give correct guidance. Therefore, if we adopt correct information and scientific thinking today, we can protect ourselves from many diseases in future.
Furthermore, evidence based health is also very important at the society level. When the entire public trusts the right information, it becomes easier to deal with large-scale health crises. In situations like the pandemic, we have seen that where people trust science and evidence, the situation can be handled better.
