New Delhi, December 26 (IANS). We keep using some things in everyday life, but are unaware of how dangerous they are for health. Aluminum foil used in kitchen is also one such thing. Sometimes it is used to wrap bread in lunch box, sometimes to keep food fresh, and sometimes for cooking food in oven or gas. But science says that its excessive use can be harmful for health.
According to science, aluminum is a light metal, which starts reacting slowly when exposed to heat and certain things. When we wrap very hot food or sour and salty foods in aluminum foil, its very small particles can get into the food. Things like tomato, lemon, vinegar, pickle or spicy gravy speed up its reaction.
Research has said that this quantity is less in normal use, but doing this daily can increase the risk of aluminum accumulation in the body. Ayurveda links it to toxic elements accumulating in the body, which can gradually become the root of disease.
The effect of aluminum is not limited to the digestive system only. In scientific language it is called neurotoxin, that is, it has the ability to affect the nervous system.
Food packed in aluminum foil increases problems related to bones and kidneys. Science shows that aluminum can interfere with the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the body. Due to this the bones start becoming weak. The function of the kidney is to remove waste materials from the body and aluminum also goes out through this route. But for people whose kidneys are already weak, this can become an additional burden.
Even in Ayurveda, kidney is considered the purification system of the body and excessive pressure on it can give rise to many diseases.
The greatest risk increases when aluminum foil is used with hot and sour food. Nowadays, it is common to wrap hot food directly in foil for office or school, but this habit can gradually cause harm. Heat makes aluminum more active and the possibility of its particles getting into food increases.
This does not mean that aluminum foil is completely poison or that its use should be abandoned altogether. Correct method and limited use is the solution.
