New Delhi, July 1 (IANS). In today’s fast-paced life, work pressure, family responsibilities, financial worries and constantly changing lifestyle are having a deep impact on people’s mental health. In such an environment, many people like to spend some time alone. Many people find that being alone relaxes them.
If we look at it from the perspective of psychology, the nature of every person is different. Some people feel good meeting friends or relatives, while others feel better by spending time alone. For such people, solitude is not necessary, but solitude.
According to psychological research, limited periods of healthy solitude can help reduce stress, understand emotions and maintain mental balance. Experts say that the problem starts when the habit of living alone gradually starts turning into social distance. If a person constantly avoids meeting friends, family or colleagues, stops answering the phone, loses interest in conversation, or starts distancing himself from people he previously enjoyed spending time with, this is not considered normal behavior. This can be an early sign of problems like mental stress, anxiety or depression.
According to psychologists, it is very important to understand the difference between healthy solitude and harmful social isolation. In healthy solitude, a person is definitely alone, but he has no problem in connecting with people when needed. He continues to fulfill the responsibilities of his work, family and relationships normally. At the same time, in social isolation, the person gradually keeps distance from relationships, the desire to meet others starts to disappear and sometimes the enthusiasm towards life also reduces. If this situation persists for a long time, it can have a negative impact on mental health.
Medical and psychology research shows that prolonged social isolation also affects the body. Constantly being alone can increase levels of stress hormones, especially cortisol. It can also affect sleep, memory, ability to concentrate and immune system. Many studies have also found that people who maintain social distance for a long time have a higher risk of anxiety and depression.
Walking in the open environment for some time every day, spending time in nature and regular physical activities are beneficial for mental health. Yoga and breathing exercises, such as Bhramari Pranayama, Balasana and Setubandhasana, are considered helpful in reducing stress and keeping the mind calm. Adequate sleep, balanced diet and regular routine also play an important role in maintaining mental balance.
