Consume cooling natural cold drinks: Drink plenty of fluids in summer. Drinks like cucumber juice, wood apple juice, coconut water, mint juice, lemon water and buttermilk cool the body and prevent dehydration.
Avoid strong afternoon sunlight: Avoid exposure to sunlight between 12 noon to 3 pm. If necessary, cover your head with an umbrella, cap or towel and leave only with a water bottle.
Avoid heavy and fried food: Pitta dosha increases in summer. Therefore stay away from spicy, chilli and fried foods. Eat light, healthy and fresh food.
Use rose water and sandalwood: Wash face and eyes with rose water, it cools the skin and reduces irritation. Sandalwood paste or sandalwood powder also provides relief from sweat and heat.
Wake up early in the morning and do light exercise: Get up before sunrise and do yoga, pranayam or a light walk. Due to this the body remains full of energy and cool throughout the day.
Keep lunch light: Never eat heavy food in the summer afternoon. Take light and easy to digest food like pulses, rice, vegetables, roti or khichdi, so that there is no burden on the digestive system.
Keep the mind cool: Irritability and stress increase in summer. Meditation, deep breathing exercises like Anulom-Vilom, Sheetali Pranayam and listening to music keep the mind calm.
