New Delhi, May 29 (IANS). Now only a few days are left for World Yoga Day (21st June). In such a situation, the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India is continuously sharing new information to inspire people towards yoga. The ministry has given information about special yoga asanas for people suffering from epilepsy.
Regular practice of these asanas calms the nervous system, reduces stress and can reduce the chances of seizures. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, epilepsy is a problem in which the electrical waves of the brain are affected. Yoga practice along with medicines can prove to be very useful in managing this problem. Yoga keeps both body and mind balanced, which improves the quality of life of the patients.
The Ministry has advised that epilepsy can be better controlled by including these asanas in your daily routine. Also appealed to the people to make yoga a part of their life. Yoga is very important not only for physical but also for mental health. Regular yoga practice can not only reduce epileptic seizures but also improves health. The main yoga asanas suggested by the ministry include Uttanpadasana, Bhramari Pranayam, Tadasana, Ardha Matsyendrasana, Vajrasana.
Uttanapadasana:- In this asana, the legs are raised while lying down. This asana strengthens the abdominal muscles and makes the spine flexible. This reduces stress and also improves sleep.
Bhramari Pranayam:- In this pranayam, the eyes are closed and the breath is exhaled with the sound of ‘M’. It calms the brain, relieves anxiety and stress. It is considered very beneficial for epilepsy patients.
Tadasana:- This exercise is done by standing and stretching the body. This asana increases concentration, improves posture and circulates energy throughout the body.
Ardha Matsyendrasana:- This twisting asana strengthens the waist and spine. It also keeps the digestive system healthy and balances the nervous system.
Vajrasana:- This asana, done even after meals, improves digestion and keeps the mind calm.
Bhujangasana: This snake pose asana opens the chest and lungs and increases energy.
Yoga experts say that these asanas should be practiced properly and slowly. In the beginning, it is better to do yoga under the supervision of an expert, especially for epilepsy patients.
