New Delhi, October 9 (IANS). The utensils used in our kitchen are not just for cooking or eating, but they also have a deep impact on our health. It is also mentioned in Ayurveda that eating food in which metal vessel can be beneficial or harmful for the body.
Each vessel has its own unique characteristics, which affect the body’s energy, digestion, immunity and overall health.
First of all let’s talk about the pot of gold. Gold supplies energy to the body, increases immunity and provides mental peace. The food eaten in it nourishes the body and strengthens the immunity. However, gold is very expensive, so its daily use is not possible.
After this comes silver. Eating food in silver utensils keeps the body cool and helps in destroying bacteria. But not every type of food can be eaten in silver, hence it should be used in limited quantity only.
Bronze utensils are considered extremely beneficial in Ayurveda. It increases digestion power, reduces the problem of gas and acidity. However, milk or sour things should not be kept in bronze as it may cause a chemical reaction.
Copper utensils are also very beneficial. The water kept in these helps in removing toxic elements from the body and strengthens the liver. But things like pulses or milk should not be kept in copper utensils, because it can have negative effects on the body.
Brass utensils are helpful in increasing immunity, but the milk or ghee kept in them spoils quickly.
Iron utensils fulfill the iron deficiency and increase the level of hemoglobin in the blood, but they should not come in contact with sour things because there is a risk of rusting.
Nowadays, the most commonly used steel utensils are durable and safe, but they do not provide any special health benefits. At the same time, aluminum utensils are light and cheap, but their use for a long time can have adverse effects on health. Aluminum accumulates in the body and increases the risk of diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Clay pots are the most natural and traditional option. Food cooked in these is delicious and they maintain coolness. However, they are a bit difficult to handle as they are fragile and can break easily.
