New Delhi, February 27 (IANS). In an important step towards promoting inclusive and ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India, the government has launched a casebook on ‘AI and Gender Empowerment’. The IT Ministry gave this information on Friday.

This casebook was officially launched at the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’. It has been prepared by IndiaAI Mission under MeitY, in collaboration with UN Women and with the support of Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD).

It features 23 AI solutions from different countries in the Global South that demonstrate concrete and measurable impact on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

According to the ministry, 23 AI solutions were selected in this casebook after a rigorous and multi-level evaluation from 233 entries received from more than 50 countries.

“An independent evaluation committee comprising senior officials from MeitY, MoWCD and UN Women selected solutions based on actual use, measurable impact on gender and evidence-based outcomes,” the statement said.

The solutions presented cover key areas such as healthcare (including menstrual health), economic empowerment and financial inclusion, digital security and prevention of gender-based violence through technology, climate resilience and sustainable agriculture, access to justice and legal services, education and skills development and knowledge resources for policy-makers and activists.

The casebook also received international appreciation when UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited UN Women’s stall at the JanAI Expo.

The Secretary General interacted with young women from rural communities pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) under the WESTEM project. The project is being run by UN Women in collaboration with the Governments of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the European Union, Micron, Nokia and Head Held High Foundation.

According to the statement, these young women said that they are using AI to learn new skills, increase access to education and find new employment opportunities. It shows a practical path towards future technological leadership.

It was further said that this casebook will serve as a comprehensive knowledge resource for policy-makers, technology developers, researchers and activists. It aims to show how AI systems can be designed to be ethical, inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of women and girls, especially in the context of India and the Global South.
