Having to sit for a long time in the office can be burdensome, this is how cervical problems increase.

New Delhi, July 17 (IANS). In today’s fast-paced life, many of our habits have changed. Working in office for long hours, using mobile continuously and moving less has become common. These changing habits are also affecting our health. One of these problems is neck pain, which people commonly call cervical. Earlier this problem was seen in older people, but now younger people are also facing this problem.

Many people work on laptops for hours or keep looking at mobile phones with their neck bent. Gradually this habit starts putting pressure on the muscles and bones of the neck. In the beginning, mild pain and fatigue is felt, but if you do not pay attention, this problem can increase.

Actually, there is a part of the spinal cord inside our neck, which is called cervical spine. This part supports the neck and helps it to rotate easily. There are seven small bones in this spine of the neck. There are discs between these bones, which help in absorbing shocks and rotating the neck easily. When there is too much pressure on these bones, discs or nerves, pain, strain and stiffness are felt in the neck. This problem is called cervical. Many times the pain extends beyond the neck and also reaches the shoulders, hands and fingers.

According to health experts, sitting incorrectly is one of the biggest causes of cervical problems. Today a large number of people work on computers and laptops. If the neck remains bent forward while working, there is continuous pressure on the neck muscles. Excessive use of mobile has also become a major reason for this. When we look at the phone with our neck down for a long time, the pressure on the neck can be many times more than the body weight. Continuing this habit for a long time can increase the problem of pain and stiffness in the neck.

Apart from this, sitting at one place for hours, sleeping in the wrong way, using a high pillow, suddenly lifting heavy objects or getting injured on the neck can also cause cervical problems.

Cervical pain often begins with mild pain and stiffness in the neck. Many people have trouble turning their neck after waking up in the morning. Some people may feel pain in the shoulders, heaviness in the head, or tingling in the hands. If the pain persists or you start feeling weakness in the hands, then it should not be ignored. In such a situation, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

To avoid cervical cancer, it is important to make some changes in daily habits. While working, sit properly on the chair and keep the computer screen in front of the eyes. Do not sit at one place for a long time, get up and walk around occasionally and give your neck rest.

Do not bend your neck down for too long while using mobile. Do regular light exercise and use a pillow while sleeping, which keeps the neck in a comfortable position.
