New Delhi, May 16 (IANS). Tulsi plant in the courtyard of the house has great importance in Sanatan Dharma. However, Tulsi is not limited to the puja thali. Its leaves, flowers and seeds are all very beneficial for health. Consuming basil parts in summer provides coolness to the body, increases immunity and prevents many seasonal problems.
The Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India also considers Tulsi as a powerful boon of nature. In Ayurveda, Tulsi is called the ‘Queen of Herbs’. Apart from its leaves, medicinal properties are also found in abundance in Manjari i.e. flower clusters and seeds. Basil seeds are especially beneficial in summer. Consuming them after soaking them in water provides coolness to the body and reduces fatigue, burning sensation and thirst caused by heat.
Basil stems and leaves have antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal and antioxidant properties. Immunity is strengthened by their regular consumption. Prevents cold, cough, fever, sore throat and viral infections. Asthma and allergy patients also get relief. By strengthening the digestive system, it provides relief from problems like gas, indigestion, acidity and constipation.
Tulsi is effective in removing not only physical but also mental problems. The scent of basil reduces stress, keeps the mind calm and induces good sleep. Brings glow to the face, reduces mouth ulcers and acne and purifies the blood.
In summer, chew 4-5 basil leaves on an empty stomach in the morning. Make tea by adding basil leaves and manjari and drink it. Soak basil seeds in water overnight and take it with honey in the morning. Make a decoction of basil with ginger, black pepper and cloves and drink it.
Experts say that regular use of cheap and easily available natural medicines like Tulsi can reduce the need for medicines. However, in case of any serious illness, definitely consult an Ayurvedic doctor.
