New Delhi, March 12 (IANS). Summer season has arrived. The temperature is continuously increasing in many parts of the country. In such a situation, experts advise to include some general tips in the daily routine to avoid heatwave and heatstroke.
The National Health Mission (NHM) has advised caution especially for children, elderly and sick people. Summer season can be made safe and comfortable by adopting small precautions.
Giving necessary suggestions, NHM said that by adopting precautions, the ill effects of heat can be avoided and oneself and the family can be kept safe. According to the mission, the most important thing is to drink enough water. Drink plenty of water, lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water or drinks like ORS throughout the day. Do not let there be lack of water in the body, because dehydration is the biggest cause of heatstroke.
The second most important thing is to take care of clothes in summer. Wear light colored cotton and airy clothes which keep the body cool. Dark colored or tight clothes absorb more heat, so avoid them. At the same time, completely avoid the strong afternoon sun. Avoid going out between 11 am to 4 pm. If it is necessary to go out, carry an umbrella, hat, sunglasses and a wet towel.
It is very important to keep an eye on the symptoms of heatstroke. If symptoms like sudden high fever, excessive sweating or no sweating at all, dizziness, vomiting, headache, fainting, fast heartbeat, red and dry skin are seen, immediately take them to a shady place, give them water and contact the doctor.
Not only this, keep pets in a shady place and give them enough water. Avoid heavy physical work or exercise in extreme heat. Use fan, cooler or AC at home and try to keep the room cool. If any serious symptoms are seen, immediately reach the nearest health center or hospital.
