Hyderabad, May 17 (IANS). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave warning for the next seven days in many parts of Telangana.
According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, the maximum temperature in the state may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the next three days.
The Meteorological Department has expressed apprehension that the temperature in some districts may reach beyond 45 degrees Celsius between May 19 and May 24.
According to IMD, there is a possibility of severe heat wave in some areas of Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagatyal and Rajanna Sircilla districts on May 18. The maximum temperature in these districts may go above 45 degrees Celsius.
Heat wave-like conditions persisted in many parts of Telangana on Sunday also.
According to Telangana Development Planning Society, Bhimgal mandal of Nizamabad district recorded the highest temperature of 45.7 degrees Celsius. A temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Mosra mandal of the same district.
The effect of heat wave was also seen in some divisions of Nirmal district. The maximum temperature was recorded at 45.3 degrees Celsius in Dasturabad and 45.1 degrees Celsius in Tanur.
Kollur in Banswara mandal of Kamareddy district recorded a maximum temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius.
Of the 33 districts in the state, 16 districts recorded maximum temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius or more. The average maximum temperature of the state was 40.8 degrees Celsius.
The average maximum temperature in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area was recorded at 40.4 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature of 42.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Goshamahal Circle.
In view of the warning of IMD, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Department, Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak has issued an advisory for citizens. In this, information is given about what to do and what not to do to prevent heat stroke.
As a precautionary measure, the government has made arrangements for special beds, IV fluids and essential medicines in all government health centres. Also, ORS packets have been made available to ANM, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, so that any emergency can be dealt with.
