India’s Agriculture Ministry has clearly assured on Wednesday that the ongoing tension or war in West Asia will not have any adverse impact on the country’s agricultural sector and farmers. The ministry said that there is a complete stock of all the necessary input materials and fertilizers and seeds for the coming Kharif season. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself has reviewed the situation and has given strict instructions to the officials to continue the supply of fertilizers without any interruption.

Availability of seeds and fertilizers for Kharif season
According to the ministry’s data, the availability of seeds for the Kharif season this year is much more than the requirement. The government has surplus stocks for main crops like paddy, soybean, groundnut and pulses. At the same time, the Fertilizer Ministry has also clarified that the stock of essential fertilizers like Urea and DAP with them is in better condition than last year.

Steps taken by the government to maintain supply
Special Cell: The Agriculture Ministry has constituted a special cell which will monitor the agricultural area and availability of fertilizers 24 hours.
Natural Gas Supply: The supply of at least 70 percent natural gas to fertilizer manufacturing companies has been ensured so that there is no interruption in production.
Farmer ID: To bring transparency in fertilizer distribution, the work of creating ‘Farmer IDs’ has been expedited.
LPG Coordination: Arrangements for LPG for drying maize seeds have been made in collaboration with the Petroleum Ministry.
Shipping Safety: The Shipping Ministry has confirmed that all Indian sailors and ships in the West Asia region are safe.
Although some experts had expressed concern about the increase in the prices of raw materials and problems in sea routes, the government has assured that it is keeping an eye on every situation. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has also held a high-level meeting regarding fertilizer and energy security so that farmers do not face any problems.
