New Delhi, March 5 (IANS). Abhyanga and consumption of sesame oil is recommended to protect the body from cold and provide warmth in winter.
Sesame strengthens the body and also helps in strengthening the bones, but is it right to do abhyanga with sesame oil in summer? In Ayurveda, where Abhyanga with sesame oil is considered necessary in winter, similarly in summer too, if Abhyanga is done at the right time, beneficial results will be seen.
Abhyanga in Ayurveda means massaging the entire body with lukewarm oil with regular, light pressure. In Ayurvedic texts, sesame oil has been called the “best affection” because it penetrates deep into the skin and nourishes it and pacifies Vata dosha. Now the question is whether to massage with sesame oil in summer or not. Pitta dosha increases in summer season and the effect of sesame oil is also hot. Therefore, it is believed that in summer one should avoid things with hot nature.
In summer, you can massage with sesame oil two to three days a week. For this, heat the oil slightly and massage the body with light hands on an empty stomach in the morning before having breakfast. This improves blood circulation, protects joints, reduces vata dosha, deeply nourishes the skin and reduces dryness, reduces stress and improves sleep. In Ayurveda, Abhyanga is not just a massage but a traditional method of keeping the body and mind balanced. Even in summer, there is no need to give it up completely, but there is a need to adopt it wisely.
After knowing the benefits of Abhyanga with sesame oil, it is important to take some precautions while doing Abhyanga. If there is high fever or infection, or there is any kind of allergy or rash on the skin, the skin is red due to bile and a burning sensation is experienced, or there is any kind of obstruction in digestion, then also one should avoid doing Abhyanga with sesame oil. Due to this, both fever and infection can increase rapidly.
