New Delhi, February 2 (IANS). Food is as important for the body as oxygen because the amount of food not only fills the stomach but also provides energy and growth to the body.
Even in Ayurveda, food is not only considered a necessity of the body, but it has been called a discipline that governs life because the more balanced the quantity of food, the more stable Agni remains. Although we do not know how much food to eat.
We eat food not for the energy of the body but to fill the stomach and most of the time by eating more than the prescribed limit, we burden the body, which leads to laziness, sleeplessness, heaviness, gas and constipation. Ayurveda believes that filling the stomach completely is not the path to health. For this, half the portion should be kept for solid food, quarter for drinks and quarter for empty spaces. This is also considered the best quantity of food.
Half of the solids may include grains, vegetables and rice, one-fourth of the beverage may include buttermilk or lukewarm water, while one-fourth of the empty space is considered to be part of the movement of Agni and Vayu in the stomach, which helps in proper digestion of food. If you feel laziness, sleepiness, heaviness, gas and constipation after eating food, then understand that you have eaten more than the prescribed limit, but if after eating food, the body remains stable, the mind remains calm and you start feeling hungry after 4 hours, then it is natural.
When hungry, food eaten in limited quantities acts like medicine and supplies nutrients to all the organs. In Ayurveda, it has been explained about eating food after understanding the science of the body. Answers to questions like how much to eat or when to eat are easily found. In Ayurveda, it is always advised to eat light food at night because at night the body works to repair its own cells.
