New Delhi, October 10 (IANS). Nowadays thyroid has become a common health problem, which is affecting many people. Modern medicine considers it to be hormonal imbalance, while Ayurveda considers it to be a sign of deep imbalance in the body.
In Ayurveda, thyroid is seen as ‘Agni Dosha’, ‘Dhatu distortion’ and ‘Tridosha imbalance’, in which Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas play an important role. This approach emphasizes treating the body as a holistic unit, with the thyroid not just a gland but the center of metabolism and energy balance.
According to Ayurveda, the thyroid gland is associated with the Vishuddha Chakra (throat chakra), which controls ‘Jathragni’ (digestive power) and ‘Dhatvagni’ (fire of tissues). In hypothyroidism, there is excess of Vata and Kapha, which causes symptoms like fatigue, weight gain and lethargy.
At the same time, in hyperthyroidism, excess bile causes problems like irritability, weight loss and fast heartbeat.
To manage it, Ayurveda emphasizes on changes in lifestyle. Adequate sleep, regular exercise, stress management and a diet rich in iodine and zinc are important.
According to Ayurveda, herbs like Ashwagandha, Guggulu, Shilajit and Triphala help in balancing the thyroid.
Purification procedures like Panchakarma balance the doshas by removing toxins from the body. Besides, one should also take 10 to 15 minutes of lukewarm sunlight in the morning.
Especially, you can do Surya Namaskar, Sarvangasana, Matsyasana and Naukasana and Anulom-Vilom and Ujjayi should be done in Pranayam. By doing this metabolism improves.
Ayurvedic experts say that thyroid can be controlled naturally by regular routine, satvik diet and meditation. Treatment combining modern and Ayurvedic approaches not only provides relief from symptoms but also improves the overall health of the body.
