New Delhi, May 24 (IANS). Severe heat, heat wave and humidity continue in many parts of the country. The temperature has reached 45 degrees Celsius in many areas. In such a situation, children are most at risk of heat-related diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has appealed to parents to take special care of children and adopt measures to prevent heat wave.

According to WHO, children’s body heats up quickly during the summer season and they can become victims of dehydration and heat stroke. Therefore parents should be alert.

If we look at the symptoms of heat-related illnesses in children, their body temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) or more, severe headache, excessive sweating, muscle cramps or pain, rapid heartbeat and rapid breathing, weakness. This also includes feeling extremely irritable and vomiting along with dizziness or fainting.

WHO said that if these symptoms are seen then do not panic, if the child gets heat stroke then as first aid, immediately take the child to a shady place or inside the house. If the child is conscious and alert, give him water, ORS or lemonade in small sips frequently. Make the child lie down and elevate his legs a little. After this, sponge the body with cold tap water. If the child becomes unconscious, do not force feed water or anything. At the same time, in case of vomiting, make the child lie on his side so that he does not suffocate.

According to the organization, do not try to give water to an unconscious child. Do not leave the child in direct sunlight and do not make him wear heavy or hot clothes.

Health experts request parents not to take children out during the afternoon. While leaving home, always carry a water bottle, cap and umbrella with you. Dress children in light, cotton and loose clothes. Health experts say that with a little caution, children can be protected from serious heat problems. As soon as symptoms appear, contact the doctor immediately.
