Hyderabad, April 12 (IANS). Traffic police in Hyderabad caught a BMW driver after he allegedly used a hi-tech method to change his car’s number plate to avoid challan.
Police officials said that the police detected this trick during checking as part of the campaign against drunken driving in the posh area Jubilee Hills on Saturday night.
According to the police, the owner of the vehicle was allegedly changing the number plate to avoid traffic fines. The accused, who was reportedly drunk, had installed a remote-controlled flip number plate, which allowed him to change the registration number of the vehicle by pressing a button.
The traffic police officer was surprised to see an advanced system for changing the number plates in the car. To avoid challan, the accused had installed two number plates of Delhi and Telangana.
It is being said that this is the first incident of its kind, in which a high-tech system has been found installed in a car to change the number plate. Police have seized the vehicle and registered a case. Further investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Traffic Police on Sunday said that a total of 466 cases of drink driving have been registered in the last two days. Strict action continues across the city to ensure road safety. Most of these cases are related to two-wheelers (404). The highest number of violations were found in the 21-30 age group.
Police reported that 16 criminals were convicted and sentenced to prison.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) conducted a special drive against drink driving over the weekend, which resulted in the arrest of 240 accused.
A total of 193 two-wheelers, nine three-wheelers and 38 four-wheelers were seized during this operation.
All were classified based on their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels. 199 convicts had BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml to 200 mg/100 ml, while 32 had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml. The BAC levels of the remaining nine convicts ranged from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
Cyberabad Traffic Police said that everyone will be presented before the court. Police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious crime.
