New Delhi, March 20 (IANS). The health of teeth and gums is not limited to smile only, but it also has a direct impact on our brain and mental state. Many recent studies have revealed that if we do not take proper care of our teeth and gums, its effect is not limited to the mouth only, but can also affect the entire body and especially the brain.
When a worm gets into the tooth, the gums become swollen or there is an infection, there is constant pain. This pain can spoil your sleep, cause difficulty in eating and drinking and can gradually make you irritable. It is common for stress and anxiety to increase due to lack of sleep and pain.
If your teeth are yellow, broken or have bad breath, then you start shying away from talking openly in front of people. Many people even stop laughing. This has a direct impact on self-confidence and gradually it also affects your mental health.
Another important aspect is bacteria. When we do not clean the mouth properly, harmful bacteria start growing. These bacteria can reach other parts of the body through the blood, including the brain. Some research has also found that poor oral health may be related to memory loss and other cognitive problems.
Its impact on social life is also clearly visible. Due to bad breath or bad condition of teeth, people start distancing themselves from others. They avoid parties, meetings or spending time with friends. This can increase loneliness, which is not good for mental health.
The good thing is that it is not very difficult to avoid these problems. Brushing your teeth twice daily, especially before sleeping at night, using fluoride toothpaste, consuming less sweets and visiting the dentist from time to time, these small steps can save you from major problems.
These habits are very important for children also. If they are taught proper dental care right from childhood, their teeth will remain both healthy and strong in future.
