New Delhi, June 9 (IANS). During the summer season, it is often said that drinking hot tea or coffee keeps the body cool. However, many people’s experience is completely different. They start feeling overheated or uneasy after drinking hot coffee. The expert gave information on this.
Giving information on this topic, celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija has said that making the body feel cool is not only about what you drink, but about how effectively the body is able to expel its heat.
During the summer season, many people insist on drinking cold drinks to stay cool, but celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija has told an interesting thing. He said that even hot coffee can cool you down, but for this certain conditions must be fulfilled. If these conditions are not met, drinking hot beverages may result in feeling overheated.
According to experts, feeling cold does not depend only on what you are drinking. What really matters is how well your body expels heat. Drinking hot coffee increases the body temperature slightly, which causes more sweating. When this sweat evaporates, the body gets coolness. But in real life many times this process does not work properly.
He also explained the reason behind not getting coolness. In a room with air conditioner, one is not able to sweat properly and in humid weather, the sweat is not able to evaporate and when there is lack of water (dehydration) in the body, one sweats less. In these situations, after drinking hot coffee, one starts feeling hot instead of cool.
Citing a research done by Ottawa University, he said that hot drinks prove beneficial only when the surrounding environment helps in evaporation of sweat.
Health experts also give some easy advice on this. He suggests that along with drinking coffee, also take adequate water and other fluids. Don’t rely only on coffee. Keep the weather in mind, as if it is dry weather, hot drinks may work better, but be careful in humidity. Don’t rely only on coffee to feel refreshed.
The simple fact is that coffee or any drink does not cool you down. Your body does the real work, which is releasing heat through sweat. If the environment and body condition are not right then hot drinks can have the opposite effect. In such a situation, to keep the body cool, it is more important to drink the right amount of water, wear light clothes and avoid humidity.
