New Delhi, April 28 (IANS). If there is a biggest concern about anything today, it is the increasing screen time of children. Mobiles, TV and tablets have now become a part of children’s daily routine. From waking up in the morning till sleeping at night, many children remain glued to the screen for hours.
Many parents feel that if they let their child use mobile phone or watch TV, he will sit peacefully at one place and will not disturb you by having too much fun, but this convenience of yours can become a hindrance in the physical and mental development of children.
Technology has certainly made our lives easier, but its excessive use is gradually turning into habit and then addiction. This is affecting children also. Children are now moving away from outdoor games. Whereas earlier children used to play cricket, kho-kho or cycling in the streets, now they spend most of their time on video games, cartoons and social media.
The effect of this change is clearly visible on his health. Obesity is increasing rapidly in children due to less physical activity. Many children start getting tired quickly, their physical stamina is decreasing and eye related problems are also increasing. Doctors also believe that watching too much screen affects the quality of sleep, which can affect the mental and physical development of children.
It affects not only the body but also mental development. Due to continuous exposure to the screen, children’s attention span lasts for less time. Problems like lack of interest in studies, quick irritability and lack of social interaction are also being seen. Many children start living more in the virtual world rather than the real world, which can affect their personality in the long run.
However, this does not mean that technology is completely harmful. Mobile and internet are essential for today’s education and information. Online classes, educational videos and digital learning have given new opportunities to children. But the problem starts when it is used excessively and the balance gets disturbed.
The role of parents becomes very important here. It is important to limit children’s screen time, motivate them for outdoor games and increase family time. Small changes like playing in the park for some time every day, reading books or doing any creative activity can make a big difference in the development of children.
