New Delhi, May 1 (IANS). Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) has advised people to adopt a healthy lifestyle to prevent type 2 diabetes and its related complications.
The organization says that by changing small habits the risk of this serious disease can be reduced to a great extent. WHO believes that if people make these simple measures a part of their daily routine, then the increasing cases of type 2 diabetes can be stopped. It is possible to prevent this disease by becoming aware and adopting the right lifestyle.
According to WHO, the most important thing is to maintain balanced body weight. Increasing weight can increase the risk of diabetes, so it is very important to regularly monitor your weight and control it if necessary.
Along with this, being physically active is equally important. Experts suggest that every person should exercise for at least 20 to 30 minutes daily. This may include brisk walking, cycling or light sports. Regular exercise improves the effect of insulin in the body and helps in controlling blood sugar.
The role of diet is also very important in the prevention of diabetes. WHO says that a balanced and nutritious diet should be taken, which includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains and proteins.
At the same time, one should stay away from foods high in sugar and saturated fat, because these can rapidly increase the sugar level in the body. Apart from this, tobacco consumption also increases the risk of diabetes and its related complications. Therefore, people have been advised to completely avoid tobacco. Quitting tobacco not only reduces the risk of diabetes but also improves heart and lung health.
