New Delhi, November 4 (IANS). During the winter season, the moisture in the lips starts drying up, causing them to crack, peel and become painful. In such situations, people often resort to lip balms or chemical products available in the market, but their effect does not last long.
According to Ayurveda, lip care can also be done with simple things present in nature. In Ayurveda, special importance has been given to ‘Rasdhatu’ i.e. moisture of the body. When body moisture starts decreasing in cold, the first effect is visible on the lips, because there are very few oil glands there. In such a situation, natural elements are needed to maintain moisture.
Honey: Honey is considered a natural medicine in Ayurveda. The antibacterial and moisturizing properties present in it provide relief to chapped lips. If honey is applied in a light layer on the lips before sleeping at night, the lips feel soft till morning.
Coconut Oil: In Ayurveda, coconut oil is considered full of cooling properties, that is, it gives coolness and comfort to the body. Applying coconut oil lightly two-three times a day not only heals chapped lips but also brings back their natural pink color.
Milk cream: The natural fats and lactic acid present in cream easily available at home help in removing dryness of the lips. It removes dead skin cells and brings new moisture. Applying a light layer of cream before sleeping brings back the lost moisture of the lips overnight.
Cucumber Juice: Cucumber provides natural hydration. According to Ayurveda, cucumber pacifies the pitta of the body, i.e. reduces irritation and inflammation. Applying cucumber juice on the lips with cotton once or twice a day removes dryness and makes the surface of the lips soft again.
