Kerala: Allegation of death of patient due to negligence of doctor in medical college, Health Minister orders investigation

Thiruvananthapuram, November 7 (IANS). Allegations of medical negligence have emerged after the death of Venu, a 45-year-old patient at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in Kerala. Before dying, the deceased Venu had made an audio clip and sent it to his friend, in which he had talked about the negligence of the hospital administration.

According to the information received, the controversy started when an audio clip of Venu’s death became public, in which Venu was heard telling his friend that he was brought to the hospital in an emergency after chest pain and he needed an angiogram.

Venu said in the audio clip that he was brought to the hospital on Friday itself, but his treatment was not started till Wednesday. Apart from this, he also alleged bribery and said that if anything happened, it was due to the negligence of the hospital administration.

After the audio, Venu’s health deteriorated and he died on Wednesday night. The family accused the hospital of causing his death due to medical negligence.

At the same time, the Superintendent of the Medical College denied any kind of negligence and said that the patient was given treatment as per cardiology protocol.

He said that the patient reached the hospital after 24 hours and his creatinine level was very high, due to which it was not possible to do an angiogram at that time. He already had diabetes and blood pressure problems and had earlier also been a victim of stroke.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, Health Minister Veena George has ordered an investigation by the Director of Medical Education.

Amidst this controversy, Dr. Mathew of the Cardiology Department told the media that the patient had complained of chest pain and the investigation revealed that he had suffered a heart attack. However, treatment was delayed due to arrival at the hospital 24 hours later and the patient ultimately died. This incident has raised serious questions on the health care management of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Health Minister Veena George has asked for investigation and report as soon as possible.
