New Delhi, October 16 (IANS). Our country is called the father of Ayurveda because Lord Dhanvatari appeared from the churning of the ocean with the pot of nectar and herbs, he is called the giver of Ayurveda.
There are thousands of herbs present in Ayurveda. Some of the herbs included are easy to access. One such herb is Mulethi, which is considered a boon for the body. In Ayurveda, Mulethi is called Yashtimadhu and is known by different names in different states of the country.
Liquorice is a perennial plant, which can be grown in any season. It is mainly cultivated in the Himalayan region. Liquorice has been linked to Vata and Pitta, which balances both. It is sweet in taste and helps in providing relief from many diseases. Liquorice has a cooling effect and the taste is sweet. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immuno-modulator properties, which provide relief in many diseases, although it should be taken sparingly if there is a tendency to cough.
Liquorice is used in many different ways for different problems. If respiratory diseases like cough, difficulty in breathing, asthma, pain in the throat etc. trouble you again and again, then it would be right to take Mulethi. With its use, the vocal cords of the throat also get relief and the voice becomes melodious. For this, take one spoon of Sitopaladi powder and honey mixed with liquorice, it will also help in reducing the dryness of the throat.
Apart from this, liquorice is also effective in skin and hair related problems. It also provides relief from problems like baldness, facial blemishes, itching and hair fall. For this, mix one spoonful of liquorice and Bhringraj powder with milk and apply it on the scalp of face and hair. This will enhance the glow of the face. Use of liquorice maintains the quantity and quality of sperm in men and also provides relief from the problems caused by menopause in women. For this, a decoction of liquorice should be prepared and drunk. Liquorice also provides relief from stomach related problems.
If you suffer from constipation, poor digestion, loss of appetite and frequent gas formation, you can take Mulethi with Amla powder and dried coriander powder. Apart from this, you can also make powder by grinding liquorice and fennel.
