New Delhi, May 27 (IANS). Periods or menstruation is an important phase of women’s life, but many times they have to face social discrimination and uncomfortable situations during this period, due to which they are not able to talk openly. In such a situation, ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’ is celebrated across the world every year on 28th May.
Its objective is to make women and adolescent girls aware about hygiene, safe care and correct information during menstruation. Even today, hesitation and misconceptions regarding this subject are prevalent in many parts of the society, due to which many girls are not able to talk openly on this subject. However, this is a normal physiological process and it is very important to increase awareness about it. In such a situation, the importance of this day increases even more.
Experts say that the need of the hour is to openly talk about menstruation and provide correct information. This will not only increase the self-confidence of women and adolescent girls, but will also remove the misconceptions spread in the society. Monthly Hygiene Awareness Day is an effort to strengthen the message that menstruation is not a matter of shame, but an important aspect related to women’s health and dignity.
According to UNICEF, menstruation is an important phase in the life of adolescent girls, but many times they have to face social discrimination and uncomfortable situations during this period. At the same time, transgender men and non-binary people are also deprived of essential facilities and hygiene products because of their identity. In such a situation, the need to increase awareness and sensitivity in the society is being continuously felt.
According to the National Health Mission, maintaining hygiene during menstruation is very important for women’s health. Clean and safe sanitary products should be used at this time. Also, special care should be taken to clean hands, so that infection can be avoided. Women and girls going to school, college or office should carry extra sanitary pads, water bottles and disposal bags with them. Apart from this, it is also advised to wear comfortable and loose clothes.
Health experts say that doing suggested light exercises and yoga during periods gives relief to the body and can also provide relief from pain. It is considered important to use clean and new sanitary pads while sleeping. By adopting the right daily routine, the inconveniences during this period can be reduced to a great extent.
Health experts also consider food to be very important during this period. Nutritious and light food not only provides energy to the body but also keeps digestion better.
