Milk is a powerhouse of Ayurvedic properties, know the right time and way to drink it.

New Delhi, November 5 (IANS). In India, milk has been considered a complete food and nectar since ancient times. According to Ayurveda, milk is not only a source of nutrition but also a medicine, provided it is taken at the right time, in the right quantity and in the right way. Milk juice is sweet, semen is cool and Vipak is sweet. Among its properties, it is considered heavy, greasy and strengthening.

It especially pacifies Vata and Pitta doshas and nourishes body, mind and soul.

There are many benefits of milk. It strengthens muscles, maintains body structure and helps in increasing brain function. Drinking lukewarm milk at night improves sleep. Milk taken mixed with ginger or trikatu helps in digestion. Calcium and Vitamin D present in milk strengthen bones. It purifies the blood, brings glow to the skin and provides energy in mental-physical fatigue.

The right time to drink milk is considered to be at night. Milk should not be taken on an empty stomach in the morning, especially if digestion is weak. Things like sour fruits, salt, non-vegetarian food, soda or curd should not be mixed with milk as it can cause problems like allergies or skin diseases.

Drink milk only after warming it slightly. Drinking medicines mixed with it provides more benefits. Turmeric milk increases immunity, Ashwagandha milk increases strength and semen, Triphala milk is beneficial for eyes and skin, Cinnamon milk helps in sugar control, Saffron milk improves skin and fertility and Nutmeg milk is good for sleep. In case of constipation, taking one spoon ghee mixed with milk at night is beneficial. Always drink boiled milk so that it becomes easy to digest and the pathogenic bacteria are destroyed.

Milk should not be taken immediately after meals. People with diabetes should take it without honey or sugar candy. If digestion is weak, take it mixed with turmeric or trikatu.
