Bengaluru, February 5 (IANS). The Karnataka High Court on Thursday granted medical bail to Congress MLA Satish Sail, who is jailed in a money laundering case, so that he can undergo liver transplant.
The court directed MLA Satish Sail to submit a report every two weeks regarding liver transplantation. The court also directed him to file a health progress report before the court every eight weeks.
The court also made it clear that Satish Sail should not influence the witnesses or obstruct the trial proceedings in any way. Apart from this, the court directed the MLA to deposit a surety bond of Rs 5 lakh along with personal security.
Satish K Sail, Congress MLA from Karwar constituency in Karnataka, was arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths on September 9, 2025, on money laundering charges in Bengaluru. The arrest took place when MLA Satish Sail was attending an interrogation at the ED office.
Earlier, the ED had raided the residence of Congress MLA Satish Sail in connection with allegations of illegal iron ore export on August 13 and 14, 2025, and recovered illegal assets, cash and jewellery.
ED officials seized huge amount of cash and gold. The search operation was conducted targeting properties of Satish Sail in Karwar, Goa, Mumbai and Delhi. ED officials packed the documents, gold and cash in two trunks.
MLA Satish Sail was the third Congress MLA arrested by central agencies at that time. Chitradurga MLA KC Veerendra and Dharwad Rural MLA Vinay Kulkarni were the other two MLAs.
On October 26, 2024, a special M/MLA court had sentenced MLA Satish Sail to seven years’ imprisonment in all six cases related to the Belekeri illegal iron ore export case. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 44 crore on him.
A case was registered in 2010 in connection with the illegal iron ore export case, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later filed a charge sheet in the case. MLA Satish Sail was named as the second accused in the first case.
However, the Karnataka High Court had stayed the sentencing of Satish Sail in the illegal iron ore export case on December 21, 2024.
The court also directed the officials not to announce by-election in Karwar assembly constituency until the result of their appeal comes.
The court had barred him from attending the assembly session. Later, he was arrested by ED on charges of money laundering.
