Mumbai, May 9 (IANS). National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar on Saturday visited KEM Hospital in Mumbai and reviewed the functioning of the government one stop center run for women affected by violence. An officer gave this information.

During the visit, Rahatkar interacted with the staff and gave suggestions to improve the services of the centre.

In a message on social media, the NCW Chairman said that I visited the One Stop Center operated at the KEM Hospital campus in Parel, Mumbai. Satisfied to see the medical room, counseling room, temporary shelter facility and overall pleasant environment of the centre.

After visiting the medical examination room and other facilities, Rahatkar said that while reviewing the functioning of the centre, appropriate suggestions were also given to the concerned authorities to remove some essential deficiencies.

One Stop Center (OSC) aims to provide support to women affected by violence in the family, community and workplace, in private and public settings. Women facing physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economic exploitation, regardless of their age, class, caste, education, marital status, race and culture, are provided support and redressal facilities in these government funded centres.

Rahatkar’s visit to the one stop center at KEM Hospital comes just after his decision to recommend to the Central government a complete ban on parole for persons convicted in cases of rape, aggravated sexual assault and other serious crimes against women and children.

An official statement issued on Friday said the recommendations proposed by the commission may include amendments in prison and parole rules to classify rape, serious sexual assault, repeat sexual offenses and serious crimes under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act as categories ineligible for parole or temporary release from prison.
