Myopia clinic started in Safdarjung Hospital, new direction for children's eye health

New Delhi, November 15 (IANS). Due to changing lifestyle and excessive use of digital devices, myopia (nearsightedness) is increasing rapidly in children and youth nowadays. In view of this increasing problem, a dedicated myopia clinic has been established in Safdarjung Hospital.

This clinic was inaugurated on 14 November on the occasion of National Myopia Week. Medical Superintendent Dr. Charu Bamba inaugurated it. During this time, Head of Eye Department, Dr. Anuj Mehta and in-charge of Myopia Clinic, Dr. Pankaj Ranjan were also present.

According to the hospital, this clinic will play a big role in the identification, monitoring and timely treatment of myopia in children. Along with eye examination of children, modern treatments related to myopia control will also be provided in the clinic. These include low-dose atropine eye drops, special lenses, and myopia control glasses.

Experts will also explain to children and parents important things related to reducing screen time, reading in right light, rules for giving rest to eyes and visual hygiene. Apart from this, children who have high myopia will also be given regular retina check-up and preventive care.

The hospital says that myopia is not a problem limited only to wearing glasses. If timely attention is not given, it can cause serious problems in the future. Therefore, it is very important to let children play outside for some time every day, reduce the use of mobiles and tablets and give rest to the eyes.

This initiative of Safdarjung Hospital is a big step towards improving the eye health of children. It is expected that through this clinic, not only children will be treated but awareness will also increase among parents. This will help a lot in controlling myopia in the future and the future of children’s eyes can be secured.
