Nala Sopara, March 24 (IANS). Ayushman Bharat (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) is benefiting lakhs of poor and needy families through free treatment of serious diseases and improving their economic condition. Sopara Hospital at Nala Sopara West under Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, adjacent to Mumbai, has emerged as a model centre, providing completely free and quality healthcare services to Ayushman card holders.
Speaking to IANS, Jalil Shaikh, who was present at Sopara Hospital, said, “My father is suffering from lung disease and was having trouble breathing. So I admitted him to this hospital in Sopara West. We are getting free treatment here through Ayushman card. I express my gratitude to the government for this. I did not have the capacity to get my father treated in a private hospital. The hospital has very good arrangements.”
Similarly, the wife of beneficiary Iqbal Shaikh says, “My husband was having trouble breathing. He has been admitted for 18 days and is undergoing free treatment and now he has no problems.”
Dr. Gaurav Wagh, in-charge of Sopara Hospital, said that patients are continuously getting benefits under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. In the last one month, 15 patients have taken advantage of the scheme, including patients from many remote areas including Raigarh, Ratnagiri, Jalgaon. These patients had serious diseases like pneumonia, heart related problems, anemia. Through Ayushman card, he got completely free and quality treatment. After treatment, all the patients have recovered and returned to their homes, which is a big proof of the success of this scheme.
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is the world’s largest health insurance scheme of the government, which provides free treatment (cashless) up to Rs 5 lakh every year to eligible families. The scheme covers the cost of hospitalization in empaneled private and government hospitals for critical illnesses, including medicines and surgery.
