Now a blood test can detect heart diseases 15 years in advance. Heart diseases have become a major cause of death across the world. Now scientists have developed an AI powered blood test that can predict the risk of future heart disease years in advance. This tool, developed by researchers from the LKC Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, has been named ‘Cardiomicscore’. This technology will help in detecting the possibility of serious cardiovascular diseases in a person in future through a simple blood test.
CardiomicScore can predict the risk of six major cardiovascular diseases, not just heart attack. These include coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral artery disease and venous thromboembolism. Researchers say this tool can indicate risk about 15 years before the initial symptoms of the disease appear.
Current health checkups usually assess the risk of heart disease based on age, blood pressure, smoking and other medical factors. But CardiomicScore is able to detect molecular changes occurring in the body and give warnings in advance. With this, doctors and patients can reduce the risk of disease by making changes in lifestyle in time.
This AI system analyzes the circulating proteins and 168 metabolites present in the blood sample. Population data from UK Biobank was used in the research. Scientists studied about 2,920 molecular signals that reflect changes in the immune system, metabolism and the condition of blood vessels. Based on this data, AI predicts the risk of heart disease in the future.
Experts believe that this technology can play a big role in the prevention of heart disease in the future. With timely detection, people can avoid serious diseases by improving their diet, exercise and lifestyle.
