Puri, 15 September (IANS). A peculiar case has come to light at Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where an elderly woman was first considered dead, but she was later found to be alive. The incident has created heavy confusion and discussion in the local community. Dr. Mahavir, Senior Medical Officer of the hospital, clarified the situation by clarifying in the matter.
Dr. Mahavir told that the said elderly woman was brought to the hospital with his family. The family said that there was no movement or response in the woman since morning, due to which she felt that she had died. Before bringing the hospital, the family showed a non-doctor of the village, who accidentally declared the woman dead. Usually, the process of funeral begins in such a situation, but the family, while showing understanding, decided to bring the woman to Puri District Hospital for investigation.
During the medical examination at the hospital, doctors found that the woman’s heart and lungs were still functioning, although she was not responding to external stimuli. Their neurological position is extremely delicate, and she is not reacting to any instructions or stimulation. Dr. Mahavir informed that the woman needs intensive medical unit (ICU) and ventilator support. But due to lack of ICU bed in Puri District Hospital, he was referred to high medical centers like SCB Medical College in Cuttack. Unfortunately, these hospitals refused to recruit the patient citing the unavailability of the bed.
Dr. Mahavir made it clear that the condition of the woman still remains critical. The family has agreed to accept any result. The Puri District Hospital administration has appealed to the people to contact the nearest government hospital without delay in such an emergency and avoid relying on non-functioned doctors.
