Mumbai, July 17 (IANS). The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a one-day strike to protest against the violent attack on doctors at Shastrinagar Municipal Hospital in Dombivali in Maharashtra. During this period, routine healthcare services will remain disrupted.
IMA said that the barbaric and violent attack on doctors, nurses and healthcare workers at Shastrinagar Municipal Hospital in Dombivali has caused immense outrage in the medical fraternity. Violence against healthcare professionals in the line of duty is not just an attack on individuals but an attack on the entire healthcare system.
In strong protest against this serious incident, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Maharashtra State has decided to stop all routine healthcare services for 24 hours in the entire state. This strike will continue from 6:00 am on July 20 to 6:00 am on July 21. During this period all routine OPD services will remain closed. Elective surgeries and routine medical services will remain suspended. Emergency services, Intensive Care Units (ICU), maternity services and all life-saving treatments will continue without any interruption.
This protest will be supported by doctors of allopathy, ayurveda, homeopathy and all other systems of medicine along with various medical associations, nursing associations, paramedical staff, healthcare workers and many organizations associated with the healthcare sector.
It is noteworthy that on July 8, doctors at Shastrinagar Municipal Hospital in Dombivli advised the family of a newborn baby to take the child to another hospital as there was no bed available in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Angered by this, the family reportedly contacted corporator Ramesh Mhatre, who reached the hospital with his supporters. In a viral video, the corporator was seen assaulting a doctor inside the hospital premises. Politics has also intensified regarding this while there is also news of resignation of two doctors.
